N. AMERICAN MUSTANG TEE SHIRT

Introduced in 1942, the North American P-51 Mustang was a favorite site amoung American bomber crews. Not only did the USAAF finally have a fighter escort that could follow bomber groups all the way to their target and back, they could also hang around for a while harassing the enemy while the bombers try to make a break for home.

While initially hampered by the underpowered Allison engine, the marriage of the P-51 airframe and the Rolls Royce Merlin engine turned the Mustang into one of the best fighters of it's day. It performed so well in fact that it was still the USAF's primary fighter during the early stages of the Korean war, until eventually being transferred to ground attack duties with the emergence of the jet age. Some countries even used the Mustang for official military capacities as late as the 1980s

The front features a top view of the classic "Razorback" P-51B/C model, encircled by stenciled text. The left arm shows the Black & White "Invasion Stripes" that were painted on Allied aircraft for easy identification during the D-Day Invasion.
