Rations and Accessories
Military field rations have come a long way since their invention as a sustenance solution during the American Revolutionary War. Prior to the creation of the first soldier rations, the logistics of feeding entire armies could be held accountable for the outcome of many battles.
Enter the field ration. Packaged as one day's worth of meals, soldiers could stay nourished and perform their duties without wondering where their next meal might come from. Those early colonial canned rations later evolved to dried preserved meats and lighter packaging by the First World War. The Second World War however, saw the emergence of the infamous "K" ration and the reputation of the Military food ration was sealed. By the time of the Korean Conflict, the "K" was replaced by the "C" ration. This did not do much to improve the reputation and by the Vietnam War, the MCI field ration was introduced. While improved, it was still overused as a method of keeping the troops fed.
Today's modern MREs [Meals, Ready to Eat] may still have the some of the stigma of it's lineage, but at least steps have been taken to make sure that the consumer is getting a well rounded batch of nutrients and flavors. Some even as far as coming with self heating containers.
Perfect for those times when you might be caught out in the field with a long gap between supplies or for stocking provisions in case of emergencies.
