BRITISH COMMONWEALTH WHITE NAVAL ENSIGN

English naval ensigns originated from a need to mark ships during the 16th century. Although the St George Cross is the oldest ensign in use, the current configuration was not adopted until 1707.
After officially assigning the three ensigns, The White Ensign became the ensign flown on British Royal Navy ships and shore establishments.
